LG OPTIMUS

SEOUL, Apr. 27, 2010 - LG Electronics, (LG), a global leader and technology innovator in mobile communications, announced the launch of an Android-powered smartphone, LG Optimus (LG GT540), a handset offering an optimal environment for first-time smartphone users with easy and convenient mobile access.

LG Optimus allows users to enjoy diverse Android applications and automatic account synchronization with all Google mobile services. LG Optimus also features enhanced social networking functions in a high-powered multimedia environment. “LG Optimus is the ideal choice for early smartphone users who expect all the features of smartphones without the complexity,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “This is a device that was designed for regular people who want to jump into the smartphone experience but have been hesitant to do so because of the learning curve. By making LG Optimus more approachable, we hope more people will give smartphones a try.”

Optimal Convenience

LG Optimus delivers smartphone benefits in a convenient Google internet package. With an automatically synchronized Google account, users need to only log-in once to enjoy YouTube, Gmail, Gtalk, Google Maps and more. With easy access to more than 30,000 downloadable applications and games from the Android Market, users can easily customize and expand their LG Optimus experience.

The SN Manager offers integrated access to social networking sites in a convenient platform that can manage multiple accounts. LG’s dedicated Social Networking Client allows users to easily keep track of their Facebook, Twitter and Bebo accounts. Moreover, the Social Networking System (SNS) widgets provide real-time status updates directly to the home screen without having to access any other applications. The handset’s multitasking feature allows users to view updates from friends and access their social media sites while simultaneously searching the phone’s contact list.

The user interface is customizable for maximum convenience. The LG Optimus can be customized to show anywhere from three to seven home screens displaying frequently used applications, news and weather, among other information, depending on user preference. Additionally, the main menu can be personalized to include up to 10 editable categories for faster, easier navigation.

Optimal Excitement

LG Optimus includes high-powered entertainment features that make the phone extra fun to use. The advanced media player allows users to watch DivX and Xvid videos directly without separate encoding and browsing multimedia files is especially enjoyable with the 3D thumbnail gallery.

The phone’s 3MP camera supports geo-tagging, auto face-tagging and face-to-action technology to allow users to create and share multimedia content from the phone. The LG Optimus has a built-in video editor with storyboard function so that users can add music and text to videos directly on the phone.

LG Optimus boasts a distinctive design that is both sleek and soft and is available in fashionable colors including white, pink, black and silver. What’s more, the phone includes a long-lasting 1500mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 2.1 capability, assisted GPS, 32GB of expandable microSD memory and four customizable home screen themes together with enhanced idle lock screen notifications.

LG Optimus will be available in May starting in Europe to be followed by other markets. Prices will vary country-to-country.

iPhone 4 was launched on June 24 for $199

Sunday, June 27, 2010

Apple has unveiled its new iPhone 4 after a couple wild, unprecedented months of leaks. Sure, it looks exactly like we expected it to (Steve compares it to an old Leica camera), with a glass front and back, but it's what's on the inside that counts, kids. The stainless steel band that goes around the phone is an antenna system, while also providing the main structure of the phone, though it's plugged into the same old GSM / UMTS radio you all know and love -- there's a reason they didn't call it the iPhone 4G. There's also of course that front facing camera we were all anticipating, a rear camera with LED flash, and a new high resolution display that doubles the pixels in each direction (960 x 640) for a 4X overall pixel count increase -- Apple calls it a "Retina Display." It's rated at 326ppi, which Apple claims is beyond the human eye's limit of distinction. Check out an example of the new screen up against the iPhone 3G after the break. Similar to the iPad, it's an IPS display, offering 800:1 contrast. Naturally, it's still the same old 3.5-inch size. Under the hood is the A4 processor that runs the iPad. Despite the new engine (and the 25% thinner chassis), Apple managed to make the battery slightly larger, and the new handset is rated at 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music. Oh, and that WiFi? It's 802.11n now. The camera has been bumped to 5 megapixels, with 5X digital zoom and a "backside illuminated sensor," which now can also record HD video at 720p / 30fps.

People have been dreaming about video calling for decades. iPhone 4 makes it a reality. With just a tap, you can wave hello to your kids, share a smile from across the globe, or watch your best friend laugh at your stories — iPhone 4 to iPhone 4 over Wi-Fi. And it works right out of the box. No other phone makes staying in touch this much fun.
Learn more about FaceTime
Two cameras,
two views.

iPhone 4 has two cameras: One on the front, which focuses on you. And one on the back, which focuses on everything else. FaceTime lets you switch back and forth between them at any time during a video call. All you have to do is tap a button.
Retina Display

The Retina display on iPhone 4 is the sharpest, most vibrant, highest-resolution phone screen ever, with four times the pixel count of previous iPhone models. In fact, the pixel density is so high that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels. Which makes text amazingly crisp and images stunningly sharp.

Multitasking

iPhone 4 introduces a whole new way of multitasking. Now you can run your favorite third-party apps — and switch between them instantly — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.1 This smarter approach to multitasking is available only on iPhone.

HD Video Recording and Editing

Shoot your own movies in high definition. Capture impressive video even in low-light settings, thanks to the advanced backside illumination sensor and built-in LED light. Then edit and create your own mini-masterpiece right on iPhone 4 using the new iMovie app — with Apple-designed themes, titles, and transitions. It’s available on the App Store for $4.99.

Vibering

Thursday, May 27, 2010
0 comments
I always like gadgets that are built around to helping those that are disabled by long-term conditions and the Vibering, though just a concept, is one that targets those with hearing difficulties. I think from just looking at the Vibering, you couldn’t tell it was something designed to help someone with a disability, it looks quite fashionable too and for me that is what makes it stand out.
As you can see, the concept of Vibering is based on helping people with hearing difficulties by vibration, the whole set consists of a wristwatch and two rings. How it works is quite simple and has been illustrated in the gallery below. The rings worn on either hands are used as sound detectors, detecting sound from either side of the person’s surrounding and environment. When sound is detected from a particular side, then it warns the user that something like a car may be behind /near them by vibrating.

The Vibering is also able to detect and translate a number of phrases to the wristwatch, so the watch will act as a ‘communicator’ for the user, for example if someone was calling their name, the Vibering would be able to alert them of this.

Remember the Kempler & Strauss W Phonewatch that stirred quite a reaction from the audience at CES earlier this year? Well, the company knows that the economy is slowly but surely picking up worldwide, and signs of a recovery are imminent. This has led them to position themselves to ride the bullish wave when it arrives – by rolling out a Midas-inspired version of the said device.
Basically, we’re talking about the very same W Phonewatch albeit being covered with a layer of gold this time round, making it the most luxurious smallest GSM quad-band cellphone dress watch in the world today. You can be sure that prices of this will only go up as time passes by since there will only be a thousand of these limited edition puppies to go around worldwide as it ships in Q3 later this year, offering consumers the convenience and functionality of a cell phone in a wearable fashionable wristwatch form factor.

No, the Jabra STONE did not take a different turn and stumbled upon a ghost to change its shade into pure white, but it is meant to spruce up your home with a different color. After all, white does lend an air of calmness and soothing to any room, and is more than capable of brightening the atmosphere. The white Jabra STONE was unveiled at CTIA Wireless 2010 recently, where it hopes to ride on the previous success of the original Jabra STONE which exceeded sales expectations while picking up a slew of bouquets from journalists worldwide when it was released at the end of last year. The new white Jabra STONE will be available to consumers from AT&T in the near future – specifically from May 16th onwards.
